报告人简介
    章云，加拿大工程院院士，加拿大高级测绘图像处理领域首席科学家，加拿大新布伦瑞克大学教授。已发表学术论文200余篇，授权专利6项，另有5项正在申请。研究成果获得十余项商业技术授权，被PCI，DigitalGlobe等国际知名公司广泛采用。先后荣获了多项科学荣誉奖，其中包括：2011年由加拿大国家自然科学与工程研究基金委员会（NSERC）授予的协同创新奖；2012年由国际摄影测量与遥感学会(ISPRS) 授予的Giuseppe Inghilleri奖（该奖4年颁发一次，旨在表彰在摄影测量遥感或空间信息科学领域做出重要贡献的人士）等。2006年，他的一项成果被选入“世界100项研究成果技术转让案例”。

报告内容
    本报告将在谷歌相关报道的基础上，回顾在线地图应用的发展里程碑，以及我们对谷歌地图的发展所作的贡献。主讲人将介绍一种新型虚拟现实（VR）地图系统——EarthView3D-VR。通过使用虚拟现实（VR）设备，用户可以虚拟地“参观”全球任何感兴趣的地方，在此过程中会体验到身临其境、极其逼真的三维场景。用户可以旋转三维地球：探索海洋深度，感受云雾漂浮在高耸的山峰上，欣赏平地拔起的房屋和树丛。这项技术可以高效生动地将地球表面上的地理要素以仿真三维的效果展示，以用于地理学、地质学和旅游教育等领域。报告末尾将进行软件现场演示。

This talk will
(1) review the development milestones of Google Maps based on Google’s report,
(2) review our contributions to Google Maps, and
(3) introduce a new virtual reality (VR) mapping system—EarthView3D-VR. Using a VR device, you can virtually visit any area of interest around the globe and perceive an immersive, realistic 3D scene. You can spin the 3D globe in front of you, explore the ocean depth in 3D, sense clouds floating above rising mountains, and see houses and trees popping up from the ground. This technology can effectively and vividly visualize geographical features on Earth’s surface in immersive 3D. It has a great potential to improve the efficiency of geography, geology and even tourism education. A live demo will be provided at the end of talk.
